The Gut-Brain Connection and what It Really Means

Did you know your gut and your brain are constantly chatting?

Well, not exactly chatting – but there is a form of constant communication between your central nervous system (your brain and spinal cord) and your enteric nervous system (the ‘second brain’ in your gut).

Sometimes referred to as the gut-brain axis, this is key to understanding IBS.

When we’re calm and regulated, this communication supports digestion.

But when we’re stressed, anxious, or dysregulated the communication breaks down, and the signals get scrambled.

When that happens

  • The gut becomes hypersensitive
  • Digestion slows down, or speeds up unpredictably
  • Symptoms worsen - even without food changes

But here’s the good news: You can help calm the conversation.

Practices like gut-directed hypnotherapy, breathwork, and nervous system regulation techniques can quiet the chaos and bring your system back into balance. Over time, your gut learns to feel safe again, and digestion begins to flow naturally.

That’s why when I work with clients, I focus on how their body responds to stress. Because when your nervous system feels supported, your gut can finally do its job.

Listen to what your body is trying to tell you, and give it the calm it’s been asking for.

If you’re ready to explore how calming your mind can soothe your digestion, I’d love to guide you through it.
